Last week I held The 3 Day Price Action Challenge. A series of three webinars in which I shared some of my Price Action secrets, so you can start taking Price Action trades too. In the webinars I covered candlestick analysis, support and resistance, and how to trade reversals. Below you will find a recording of each of these webinars. Watch them all and feel free to ask any questions you have in the comment form below.

Part 1: Candlestick Analysis

Candlestick analysis is the most important part of trading Forex. Once you learn to read candles you will be able to tell with a high degree of accuracy what price will do next. You will be able to tell if price will stall, reverse, or fall into a range. In the video below I share my Price Action techniques for reading and understanding candlesticks.

Part 2: Support and Resistance Areas

In the webinar below I show you exactly how to identify and placesupport and resistance areas. You can use support and resistance to identify buyers and sellers on your chart. This will allow you to know where price is likely to reverse before it reaches a certain level.

Here is a link to a table with all my support and resistance areas . Enjoy!

Part 3: Trading Reversals

In the webinar below I who you how to used candlestick analysis and support and resistance areas together to trade reversals. Reversal trading in Forex is one of the most consistent and simplest ways to trade.

If you have any questions feel free to ask them below.

3 Things Beginning and Struggling Currency Traders Need to Address

3 Things Beginning and Struggling Currency Traders Need to Address

via Winners Edge Trading:

Hello traders and investors!

This is Nathan Tucci discussing some fundamental things that should be learned for beginning currency traders. Before I get into the meat of the article, I do have one major request that we’d really appreciate you taking a second to help us out with:

If you’re a beginning currency trader or maybe new to currency trading even though you’ve traded other thing, would you leave a simple comment and let us know? Quite frankly, we have no idea what size group we have of new Forex traders and we’d really like to get some data on that.

We are even thinking about publishing a course for beginners to help them get started on the right foot so they can be successful, but again we don’t know if that would be valuable because we don’t really know what size group we’d be addressing with something like that.

So, if you’d leave a comment letting us know “Hey, I am new to this stuff” we’d be very grateful!

Moving on…

You know, a ton of people are searching for ways to make money every day (that probably isn’t surprising to you) and a lot of them are hearing about this “Forex” stuff.

Although Forex is a great way to make additional income, most of the people who stumble upon Forex never make a penny.

I believe there are 3 key factors that are causing this epidemic.

#1 The Forex Industry

The industry, itself, is not conducive to helping traders make money. It is littered with Get Rich Quick Scams, Self Proclaimed Gurus, False Methodology, Bad Software, Crappy Indicators, Greedy Brokers, Shady Websites, and the list goes on.

All in all, the industry makes it incredibly difficult for a beginning trader to go through a process that leads them to any type of success.

90+ percent of the information, tools and people you will find concerning Forex Trading are going to lead you in the exact opposite direction that a beginning trader is trying to go, so it’s no surprise that 90+ percent of people trying to make Forex work for them end up failing.

Some would like to say that this is the only problem with the validity of Forex trading, that if it wasn’t for all the scammers out there that trading would be sensible and easy and tons of people would be getting wealthy doing it; however I strongly disagree.

Though I would concede that the overwhelming supply of scams and false information is probably the biggest problem with currency trading, it is not the only problem.

#2 The Process

One of the glaring problems I see in Forex Trading (specifically in the education aspect) is that there is no defined process for how to learn and grow and eventually do it well.

Instead, there are just bits of information, guides on good strategies, webinars on important topics, etc.

And trust me, we are guilty of aiding this process, or the lack of the process more accurately.

Not that any of those things are bad (topics, strategies, reports), but they don’t make up for a defined process to become better at a specific task–in this case, trading.

I will use my over-done golf example yet again because it applies here once more.

If you wanted to play golf and you learned bits of technique:

- How to hit a flop shot

- How to take spin off the ball or add spin to the ball

- How to get more distance

- How to stop slicing it off the tee

- What kind of clubs are right for you

- The best ball for your game

- How to use less hips and more shoulders

- Tips to keeping your head still

- Tools to help your balance

And I could go on forever here, but you get the idea.

ALL of those things are good and all of them even have a place WITHIN the process to becoming a good golfer, but just learning them in random fashion without the fundamental training and practice to get to a point where you can use them successfully, they will just confuse you and cause you to fail.

This is SO similar to the trading process that most people are going through. They are getting tools and learning techniques and hearing tips and they wonder why it isn’t helping them make money.

More often than not, it’s a situation where there is not a foundation in place to use these things successfully.

You are trying to hit a 300 yard fade around the trees on the right side of the fairway before you even learned the proper way to swing a golf club trading nathan tucci forex education forex featured article forex

Any golf guru would tell you that’s a bad place to start, yet for some reason we are content letting “Wanna Be Traders” start by attending webinars on advanced trading strategies.

To me, this is a fundamental reason we are seeing such a high rate of failure for Currency (and other markets) traders:

There’s not an understandable process laid out for traders to walk through. But this leads me to my third point. The last thing fundamental issue that is plaguing new traders from making any ground in this game–the one that most people don’t want to talk about.

#3 You

Uh oh, this one could step on some toes and I apologize.. but that’s not my intent; and of course when I say “you” that doesn’t mean everyone reading this article, it only applies to the people who it applies to trading nathan tucci forex education forex featured article forex

See, one of the biggest issues we have with this epidemic of failing traders is that people come into it totally unfit to be successful.

We talked about all the scam artist and the “make millions gurus” but let’s be honest for one second:

It’s not just their fault. I mean, they couldn’t sell anything if people weren’t buying into that crap about getting rich with Forex overnight.

So a lot of the responsibility lies on the new trader who has a bad foundation before they even begin this trading journey.

If you googled “How to make the most money in the fastest way possible” and found Forex trading, you just started in the wrong place and are basically doomed to failure from the start.

I hate to say that, but we need a reality check in this industry; if we are going to fix point #1 on this list, people need to get their heads right so that the industry follows suit.

I mean, if people are getting into currency trading like it’s the lottery, why wouldn’t the industry conform to that image?

I hate to be so harsh about this, but the truth is that this aspect may be the biggest epidemic of all…

So many people are looking for the “Quick and Easy” version of building wealth and it just doesn’t exist.

When people come into Forex as a beginner with no plan or vision or discipline, it results in a MASSIVE majority of them failing, and when you look at it from that angle, it’s no surprise.

Our encouragement to you IF you represent that beginner trying to succeed is to address these 3 issues.

1. Don’t follow the industry blindly

2. Find a process that makes sense and commit to it

3. Get your head right: Reasonable Expectations.

That’s All.. That’s my advice if you are new (or maybe just still struggling without a foundation) to this field and want to be successful eventually.

P.S. Don’t forget to post a comment below! Let us know if you are new to trading or would be interested in a course devoted to “The Basics”

Asia Mirror Revival – The Webinar

Asia Mirror Revival – The Webinar

via Winners Edge Trading:

trading survival skills trading strategy trading tim black forex strategies forex education forex asia mirror revival forex Wow! The response for our Asia Mirror Revival was overwhelming to say the least. Since we had such an awesome response, we’ve decided not to try to pick 10 subscribers. Instead, we’re going to have a short webinar and then open the webinar room up for discussion. At that point, we’ll select a team (which may end up being larger than we initially intended) and proceed with our plan.

I’m really excited about this project. I’ve heard from some former trading room members that the strategy may be working again on some of the pairs. I hope that as a team we’ll be able to understand why it stopped working and what we can do to tweak it to follow the market and to be able to “predict” when the market change is happening.

How You Can Get Involved

Our plan is to try and revive this strategy and make it profitable again. I’m going to build a team of 10 Winner’s Edge subscribers who can help me with this project. The team will meet via Skype on a certain day and time that works for everyone and we’ll discuss improvements and ideas, etc. We’re changing up a little on this detail of the plan. We’re going to have a short webinar and then open the webinar up for comments and suggestions and see how that goes. The group that stands out in the webinar – regardless of size – will be our strategy group. Since the market is slow during the last week of December – that would be a good time for us to have our webinar. You can prepare for the webinar by doing the following:

  • Study the strategy and understand it.

  • Try it out on a demo account.

  • Try it on different pairs.

  • Understand what parts of the strategy are working and what parts aren’t.

  • Test the strategy back a few years (primarily Winter of 2012 when it stopped.)

  • Decide what can be done to make the strategy great once again.

Each team member will receive a copy of the Asia Mirror EA from several years ago, with some modifications so it can be used for experimentation so we can figure out what works and what doesn’t work. It’s designed to run on the free MT4 platform and can be run on demo accounts. It didn’t work very well with MT4′s Strategy Tester, but maybe we can make modifications to it that will improve its performance.

When we finally get the proper strategy nailed down. I will be rewriting the EA and each team member will receive a copy of the newly written EA with free updates indefinitely.

Our webinar will be Monday, December 30 at 11 AM NY Time (GMT-5). That would be 1600 GMT. If you haven’t already done so, just click the link below to get on the mailing list and you will receive the webinar link via email the morning of the webinar.

Get Involved in our Strategy Team

And please don’t hesitate to comment below.

Thanks,

Tim

USD Impact On Majors

USD Impact On Majors

via Winners Edge Trading:

Hello Forex traders,

Patience is key in trading Forex and the EURUSD certainly tested that skill to the maximum. The long drawn out correction which slowly had turned into an uptrend was smashed yesterday as the EURUSD crashed through the trend line with lots of momentum.

In our trading room we have been consistently warning that the upside trend is corrective and will find its borders sooner or later before a break unfolds. The same holds true for the GBPUSD where we explicitly warned for the 78.6% Fibonacci retracement level at 1.6180. The EURUSD break and GBPUSD bounce signaled USD strength during the day of the FOMC meeting minutes.

If you were not aware of these pending “threats” for the bullish case, then take a look at the link of our trading room – it is definitely worth it :) The question now rings: what next? Let us take a look!

EURUSD

The trend channel (purple) had a weak angle and price action behaved correctively and choppy, which easily could be described as a bear flag pattern. The turn occurred at the 50% Fibonacci retracement and the downside breakout has so far been accompanied with a decent thrust and momentum. This downside momentum was already very strong prior to the bear flag and supports the potential downside continuation in fact.

21- 11- 2013 eu 4

When zooming out to the daily chart, the bearish momentum translates into a big bearish daily engulfing twin. Downside continuation is imminent and test of the bottom at 1.3290 is more a question of when, not if.

Of course, a retracement of yesterday’s daily candle and a hook back to the broken trend line is always possible. A Fibonacci retracement key can be placed on yesterday’s daily candle if a retracement were to happen.

21- 11- 2013 eu d

However, that does not necessarily have to occur today. The EURUSD could continue its fall before making a correction. Smaller time frames would have to be used to trade a break below yesterday’s low at 1.3415.

Once price breaks through the bottom at 1.3290 then the Fibonacci targets are in play. The first one is 1.3150, then 1.2960, then 1.2760. The downside scenario becomes less likely when price were to move up aggressively today and then make a bull flag or when the 4 hour chart is showing higher lows and higher highs.

GBPUSD

The Cable respected the 78.6% Fibonacci retracement level, but this does not necessarily translate into a confirmed downside. The respect for the Fib level could still be a retracement and the currency could push up to the 88.6% Fib.

21- 11- 2013 gu 4

A key level is the 4 hour support at 1.6060. A break of that level is a very good first confirmation of impeding bearish momentum turn. The fall down could have lots of space. The only way I can become bullish on the GBPUSD is if price were to break above the daily resistance at 1.6250 and 1.6330 OR the Cable must provide clear higher highs and higher lows after the downside retracement to 1.5980 or 1.5920.

21- 11- 2013 gu d

USDJPY

The USDJPY is clearly pushing to the upside and breaking the 100.60 top as I am writing this article. The triangle break and subsequent bounce off of the broken triangle is thereby getting a bullish continuation. The next major level to break is the 101.60. Once that happens then an upside trend would seem hard to stop. First target is the daily top at 103.70, after which the currency pair could make its move all the way to 110, 120 or even 125 eventually. Of course, expect ups and downs along the way, but the USDJPY could make many shallow bull flags once it is indeed in a confirmed weekly uptrend.

21- 11- 2013 uj d

How do you see the above currency pairs unfolding? Let us know down below!

Thanks for sharing this article!! Good Trading!

Develop Your Edge by Trading Currencies, not Pairs

Develop Your Edge by Trading Currencies, not Pairs

via Winners Edge Trading:

As I’ve written about before, one of the primary keys to successful Forex trading is not your system, it’s you, the trader. Once you fully understand the value of this you begin to stop looking outside yourself for a holy trading grail that will take you to the promised land of riches.

But beyond understanding yourself and habits as a trader and knowing you are the key to your success or failure, it is vital to take the time to understand currency strength and knowing that when you trade in the currency market, you are trading an individual currency, not a pair.

The Key to Profitable Trading

currency pair james

The linking of currencies in pairs can be the undoing of new traders who stop right there and think in terms of trading pairs, rather than learning that the key to trading lies in knowing that currency strength (or weakness) is calculated in relationship to another currency. And it’s in determining the relative currency strength or weakness of an individual currency which will help you decide what your trade should be.

When you view the EURUSD pair you should see that as two individual currencies. Your task then, is to decide which currency you are going to trade within that pair. And in order to do this you need to examine that specific currency in relationship to all other currencies in the market (at least the major ones) to determine its relative strength or weakness.

Proper Forex Trading is a little like Betting on a Horse Race

This is similar to determining how you are going to bet on a horse race you happen to be watching on a cloudy Sunday afternoon. In any given horse race there is often a horse that is the favorite to win. And sometimes there is a horse that given the right circumstances, say, a wet track, has the strong possibility of beating the odds on favorite – who never does his best on a wet track. We’ll call these two horses, horse 1 (great on dry track) and horse 2 (great on wet track); our pair to watch.

Many casual betters might look at how wet the track is, and then determine, based only on the records of horses 1 and 2, the pair, how they are going to place their bet. Really wet track, they bet on horse 2 and if the track is drier they bet on horse 1.

But a more informed better, just like a more informed forex trader, would understand that you can’t determine the best horse to win, unless you know about the other horses’ traits as well. You need to use knowledge of all those other horses (currencies), their strengths and weaknesses, to really make the strongest betting decision.

For example, what if you know that horse 3, though not as fast as horse 1 or 2, seems to have a knack for being the fastest out of the gate and can sometimes take the lead and keep it when they can get to the inside railing and stay there. And then there is horse 6, who has run many races with horses 1 and 2, and on the occasions that 6 has been in the starting gate on the left side of 2 has beaten 2, on a wet track, more than half the time. Now you have to evaluate the position of horse 6 in the starting gate relative to horse 2.

And maybe horse 5 is a total unknown while horse 4 is a wild card. There are a lot of horses (like currencies) to look at if you’re going to make your best decision. If you keep your eyes only on the top two horses and see them as a pair, you’re missing most of the information you need to make the best bet to win. You need to look at how a horse performs against every other horse it has run against.

Currencies, like horses, play off of each other. Yes, those “top” two horses might be talked about together all the time (like the EURUSD pair), but it is only by looking at one horse, and then in comparing that horse to all the other horses and factors (the wet track, the starting position) that you can make the decision that is more likely to get you to the winner’s circle.

Trader’s Tech – Writing Your Own EA Part 100 – EA Expiration Dates

Trader’s Tech – Writing Your Own EA Part 100 – EA Expiration Dates

via Winners Edge Trading:

Forex Robot If you’re new to this series and want to check it out from the beginning, you can find that here . And look here for a list of all the programming articles.

In Part 99 we wrapped out discussion of price and trade size validation. As promised, this time we’ll talk about setting expiration dates in your code.

Why have an expiration date? Well, one reason is for added security for your EA. If it expires periodically, bootleg copies of your EA will stop working. But this is not my primary reason for expiring my EAs. In fact, anyone with sufficient technical expertise could easily defeat an expiration date on an EA (unless it was included in a DLL – we’ll discuss that in a future installment.) A more important reason for expiring my EAs is to force the users to upgrade to the latest version. Many times, nagging bugs have been corrected in newer versions, but users will continue to use the old, buggy version of the EA and not take the trouble of updating. As a result, your EA gets a bad reputation because of bugs that have long since been fixed.

So, here’s what we do to cause an EA to expire. It’s only a few lines of code and it’s pretty easy to implement. We start by declaring the datetime variable ExpireDate:

datetime ExpireDate=D'2014.01.10 00:01';

This line goes near the top just under the version number declaration so it’s easy to find and update. Next we put a warning line in the init() function:

if(ExpireDate - TimeCurrent() < 172800)
Alert("This version of the EPIC is about to expire. Please download the latest version");

This generates an MT4 alert if the indicator or EA is about to expire. 172800 is three days worth of seconds. You can set the warning to any amount of time you wish (converted to seconds.) This will give you users time to get the upgrade and get it installed. The idea here is to be sure they update their EA, not to create problems for them. Next we put the actual expiration alert code in the init() function:

if(TimeCurrent() > ExpireDate)
Alert("This version of the EPIC has expired. Please download the latest version");

This will generate an MT4 alert when the EA expires. This is not enough to stop the EA from running, only generates an annoying alert every time the init() function executes. To stop the EA, you have to add this code to the start() function:

if(TimeCurrent() > ExpireDate)

Print("This version of SMI has expired. Please download the latest version");
//if(TimeCurrent() > ExpireDate)
else

//Enter start() function code here

This code will put a line in the experts log every tick after expiration. That may not be a good idea. But the start() function code will only run when the current time is less (earlier) than the ExpireDate.

One other thing I do is add this code to the beginning of the init() function to bypass the ExpireDate code. I use different codes for each EA, but this will allow a user who knows the code to defeat the expire date of the EA using a Global Variable.

if(GlobalVariableCheck(StringConcatenate(Prefix,Symbol(),NoExpireCode)))

ExpireDate = D'2043.11.10 00:01';
//if(GlobalVariableCheck(StringConcatenate(Prefix,Symbol(),NoExpireCode)))

Of course, the name of the global variable is declared in the string variable NoExpireCode near the top of the EA:

string NoExpireCode="EPICNEC29485";

And that’s all there is to it. Thanks for your attention and please follow me on Twitter and LinkedIn.

We start by declaring the datetime variable ExpireDate:

datetime ExpireDate=D'2014.01.10 00:01';

This line goes near the top just under the version number declaration so it’s easy to find and update. Next we put a warning line in the init() function:

if(ExpireDate - TimeCurrent() < 172800)
Alert("This version of the EPIC is about to expire. Please download the latest version");

Next we put the actual expiration alert code in the init() function:

if(TimeCurrent() > ExpireDate)
Alert("This version of the EPIC has expired. Please download the latest version");

This will generate an MT4 alert when the EA expires. This is not enough to stop the EA from running, only generates an annoying alert every time the init() function executes. To stop the EA, you have to add this code to the start() function:

if(TimeCurrent() > ExpireDate)

Print("This version of SMI has expired. Please download the latest version");
//if(TimeCurrent() > ExpireDate)
else

//Enter start() function code here

This code will put a line in the experts log every tick after expiration. That may not be a good idea. But the start() function code will only run when the current time is less (earlier) than the ExpireDate.

One other thing I do is add this code to the beginning of the init() function to bypass the ExpireDate code. I use different codes for each EA, but this will allow a user who knows the code to defeat the expire date of the EA using a Global Variable.

if(GlobalVariableCheck(StringConcatenate(Prefix,Symbol(),NoExpireCode)))

ExpireDate = D'2043.11.10 00:01';
//if(GlobalVariableCheck(StringConcatenate(Prefix,Symbol(),NoExpireCode)))

Of course, the name of the global variable is declared in the string variable NoExpireCode near the top of the EA:

string NoExpireCode="EPICNEC29485";

The 3 Most Important Tools for a Trader

The 3 Most Important Tools for a Trader

via Winners Edge Trading:

Forex Education, Trading Tools As a trader, you’re going to need tools. I’m going to briefly hit the obvious. Obviously, you’ll need a computer and a broker. And of course you need a brain. ;) So, let’s start from there.

1) Training

Ha! I’ll bet I caught you off-guard with that one. Training is THE MOST IMPORTANT trader’s tool. You might be able to teach yourself almost anything – including trading. But I’ll let you in on a little secret: It will cost you MUCH more to proceed without training than it will to find a good professional trading training company with a good reputation and good track record and start from there.

A short anecdote seems appropriate here. All my life I’ve been able to teach myself all sorts of things; Programming, whitewater kayaking, photography, backpacking, rock-climbing and so on. So I thought I should be able to teach myself trading. Well, after five years and three blown trading accounts, I finally sought professional help (I don’t mean psychiatric help ;) ) and it took about 3 months for me to get it. If I had taken half of the first trading account and applied it to training, I would have done much better in much less time and for much less cash. You can find excellent training the same place I found it: right here.

2) A Trading Plan

I know this may sound like a worn out record at Winner’s Edge Trading. But there’s a reason for that. All of us here believe that a trading plan is the first step to becoming a profitable trader. You wouldn’t start building a house without house plans. You wouldn’t start a business without a business plan. Trading is a business. It needs a sound business plan. Your plan should include what you are going to trade, what strategies you will use to trade, details of the strategies you will use, what you will do with your profits, etc. As a new trader you may not have any idea how to develop a trading plan or what it should include. If you need help, check here.

3) A Trading Strategy

And the third most important tool you need for trading is a trading strategy. You can’t just enter a trade because it “looks like it might go up.” A trading strategy describes under what conditions you will take a trade, how much money you will risk, how you will enter the trade and how you will exit the trade. A good trading strategy must be well-tested to determine its profitability. As you progress as a trader, you may find that you will want to develop your own trading strategies. That’s good. But as a new trader, you will want to use an already developed trading strategy. Winner’s Edge has quite a few strategies available in our blog. You can find them here.

Three tools you can’t do without. Have a great day!
