Using an executive order and the U.S. Dept. of Education’s rule-making authority, the President proposed a regulatory regimen that could shutter hundreds of degree-granting schools — that enroll a million or more students in fields that range from accounting to air-conditioning repair for the schools’ failure to place graduates in well-paying jobs.The administration framed the move as a bold step to protect Americans from predatory institutions that leave students with high debt and few marketable skills.
